Graphic Design

Datse Multimedia does graphic design mainly for the purpose of providing graphic content for web design. Some graphic design has been used for things like brochures, business cards, and posters.

So far the graphic design that we have done has been mostly black and white, and limited colour range. In the near future, we are looking at producing some more colourful designs, which can be used both for web, and print. The main reason for the use of black and white designs to date has been the lack of a colour printer to print the designs on, and not wanting to have to rely on print shops to print the designs that we are producing.

We have decided that professional printers/print shops are really a great thing, especially as electronic designs can be sent in to them, to have printed, and get quite reasonable results at a cost that is difficult to match unless you are doing a large volume of printing and can afford to purchase the printers that are needed to produce the quality of work that professional printers are able to produce

Design Process

Datse Multimedia works closely with clients to first determine the possible themes that may be used in the final project. This can be a feel that would like to be expressed, or a thematic object, or possibly even a specific image that would like to be used, or modified.

From there we produce a number of samples of what the final project may look like, or at least roughing out of what the project may look like. These can either all be developed further, or certain designs may be eliminated completely, or one or two designs may be decided to be worked on more.

At that point the designs will be worked on more, and will have more depth, colour and texture given to them, so that a full feel for what may be possible with the designs and afterworlds a near finished product is presented to the client to look at final revisions that may be wanted on it

Datse Multimedia likes to keep a number of revisions of a project on file so that working from previous designs does not mean totally re-working the design. This also allows for major revisions to be made on a project if at some point it is decided that the direction that it has been going is not that which the final project may be wanted to look like.

Sample of Work Done

I am providing a sample of the work we have done in the past. This is a fairly comprehensive sample due to the limited work that has been done in this area. Each design will have a little bit about the design, possibly about the design process.

Datse Multimedia Productions Logo

Datse Multimedia Productions Logo

This image was created for Datse Multimedia. We decided that we wanted the crescent moon as a motif in the logo because the word datse is Tibetan for crescent moon. So we created a simple crescent moon and then looked around for fonts that would give the right kind of feel for a multimedia production company. This is what we ended up with.

The font used is one called Abaddon, or at least that's what the file claims it is, will have to look at what it looks like on a computer with Abaddon installed on it, it may be sufficiently modified to not look like that. We chose that font because it seemed to present the feel of artsy, sort of Eastern feel to it.

This is another logo that we have worked on. We have worked on it a number of times with a number of different pieces of software. This version was created in Inkscape and exported as a PNG file. This was based on a design which was done by Hall Printing in Trail. The design is one of a spinning wheel, a rag shuttle and a skein of yarn.

There are two fonts which are used in this image, Coronet, and Comic Sans MS. Neither of them particularly interesting in themselves, especially not Comic Sans MS, but both together produce a cleaner version of the look that was originally used in the Hall Printing version of this.

We think that this really just is a cleaner version of another person's design, it is not truly imaginative, but it shows how we can work with other designs and adapt them in such a way as to produce something with a bit of difference. This did not start with the original image, but was instead re-created from scratch.

This logo was created by us for a friend of ours who is starting up a dog walking and pet/house sitting business. This was created over the course of a weekend, and it appears that there is a version which is somewhat more revised than this one that unfortunately we do not have a web-safe graphic that can be put here

The paw print was taken from another web site (which we can no-longer remember, nor did we document it) and was rasterized and cleaned up. The dog bones that are used are cleaned up from a trackpad drawn dog bone. The font used is once again Comic Sans MS, which was not our original choice, but the client decided that she liked that much better than the original choice.

This pretty much is the extent of the graphic design done to date. More will be done in the coming months and years, and may or may not show up here. Please feel free to contact us if you would like anything like any of these done yourself.
