Soapmaking workshops are offered in the studio on a fairly regular basis, both through the local recreation offices and privately by contacting Tricia.
Dates for classes will be privately negotiated. If you are travelling to Rossland, call or email and we can set up a class. I may be away working or holidaying so contact me before coming to check my availability. If you live in the area, just contact me as well to set up a class session. These are in my studio or outside if the weather permits. Ask for availability of specific classes.
Soap Making: You make cold process soap using vegetable oils, sodium hydroxide, essential oils and your own chosen additives. It is a 3 hour class and you get 16-20 bars of lovely, mild soap when you are finished. It is only available in the studio at this time because equipment and materials are specialized. It is an excellent idea to get a group of friends together to organize a class. Class cost per student is $45.00
Bath product workshop: also available and involves making bath fizzies and one other item of your choice. The items made are: bath salts, bath oils, bath powder, massage oils or milk bath. The choices may expand to other items. Class cost per student is $45.00
Salves and cremes: Learn to make simple salves from infused oils and beeswax. Also a simple cream which uses easily obtained items and infused oils. Class cost per student is $45.00
The Tooney Tuneup Spinning Workshop: This one involves wheel maintenance, carding, maybe some combing or flicking and using different methods of drafting for spinning. You use a particular type of wool and learn about its qualities. Also may involve some colour blending and playing. This workshop can be one to 3 days which would determine the actual content. In my studio, is $70.00 per day plus materials cost. If I travel, is $200.00, plus expenses.
Designer Yarns: You make several different designer yarns, using plying methods to make them. At least 5 different techniques, including spiral, encasement, knop, boucle and navajo plying. Four hours of instruction $70.00, which includes materials.
Dyeing days: are available as well and involve different techniques and use of different types of dyes. This is arranged with the individual student or group as to the particular interests.
Cochineal Dyeing Class: is a full day and involves several mordants and after baths for a wonderful red natural dye. I can also offer a simple silk scarf class using cochineal and another natural dye.
Beginner weaving classes: Learn how to plan and make a simple project from start to finish. Examples are scarf, placemats, tea towels.
Make a Rag Rug: You will use my large Glimakra loom to weave a rug. I will set up the loom for several rugs and the cost will be the materials cost for each foot.
Beginner Felt Class: Make a piece of flat felt and learn about shrinkage so you can plan a piece of work which turns out the size you wish. This can also include making a piece of felt to hang on the wall or turn into a cushion or Tea cosy.
Hat making class: Make a felt hat, or maybe a pair of slippers.
Vest class: Make a felt vest
Scarf class: Make a felt scarf which has wonderful drape. Use silk and wool. This is for those who have already done some felting.
Class costs are generally $45.00 per student in my studio, per session, but as most of the above are individual type classes, the cost will depend on time and complexity, plus materials cost. Please enquire.
